A content cluster is a pillar page plus a ring of linked pages on one topic, the fastest way to build topical authority.
One deep, connected set of pages beats scattered one-off posts. It tells Google you own the whole subject.
1. Choose a pillar topic
Pick a broad topic you want to be known for. It should be big enough to support many sub-pages.
2. Map the sub-topics
Turn real questions and searches into a list of cluster pages. Each one answers a specific angle.
3. Build the pillar page
Write a comprehensive overview that links out to every cluster page. It is the hub of the wheel.
4. Write the cluster pages
Cover each sub-topic in depth and link back to the pillar. Map one keyword per page to avoid overlap.
5. Link them together
Connect related cluster pages to each other, not just to the pillar. Internal links spread authority across the set.
Worth knowing: Start with the pillar plus three or four strong cluster pages, then expand over time.
Mistakes to avoid
- No internal links. Without them it is just a pile of pages, not a cluster.
- Overlapping pages. Two pages on one keyword compete instead of compounding.
- A shallow pillar. A thin hub undercuts the whole structure.
